Abstract. The article discusses the concept of “dialect”, the main language levels of dialects, their classification and the emergence reasons of this phenomenon. The classification within the framework of linguistic dialects’ geography is also considered. The relevance of this topic is explained by the need to study the English dialects dynamic development and their emergence in the context of the territorial variability high interest in the languages of Great Britain. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the current research of the British English dialectal variability expands the understanding of the national languages diversity, adding new aspects in their formation systematization. The object of my research is the geographical expansion process of the English dialects variability in Great Britain, and the subject – social and territorial features of such variability. Therefore, the purpose of the survey is to present a systematic analysis of the current dialectic variants, identifying the prerequisites for the dialectical diversity of British English in the UK. This article is based on such research methods as: descriptive analysis, generalization in the field of dialectology, classification, sociological survey.
As a result of this study, the article analyzes such concept as a dialect, explains its role in the English society, provides the dialects picture of Britain as well as dialectal specifics of the south. Also, a sociological survey was conducted among bachelors at RUDN University to reveal the understanding difficulties of various southern dialects.
