MANIFESTATION OF CONFLICT IN THE TEXTS OF PUBLICATIONS ON THE TOPIC OF CORONAVIRUS IN THE MEDIA (BASED ON THE MATERIAL OF THE AMERICAN PRESS)

Abstract. Today’s state of conflict is becoming typical of most areas of human life. Particularly acute conflicting parties declare themselves in politics. The situation with the emergence and spread of a new coronavirus infection has become the so-called trigger for the development of relations between different states. Officials of each country speak about what is happening in different ways. The reaction of the US government to the appearance of COVID-19 was the most acute and sharply negative. In this regard, it is appropriate to state that the appeal to the study of the language and style of news texts on the topic of coronavirus, as well as the identification of conflict-forming factors in these texts, determines the relevance of the work. This article discusses the results of the analysis of the linguistic features of publications on the subject of coronavirus to identify conflict-forming factors. The object of the study is the conflict-forming factors; the subject is the linguistic and stylistic features of news texts as factors causing conflict in the text. We analyzed news texts in English on the topic of coronavirus infection, which appeared in the period from March to June 2020. The study of the language and style of publications on the topic of coronavirus is currently relevant, since the situation with the emergence and spread of a new сoronavirus infection has become an obstacle to the development of mutual relations between states. The mass media act as a tool that helps to navigate in an ever-changing world and allows you to form a system of assessments and views. A conflict text is a text that aggravates a specific situation and provokes or increases a conflict. The concept of speech conflict is inextricably linked with the concept of a conflict text. A speech conflict is a confrontation between the parties to the conflict, as a result of which each of the parties consciously acts to the detriment of the opposite side, explicating their actions by verbal and pragmatic means. Among the markers of a conflict text there are lexico-semantic and lexico-grammatical systems. Speech influence techniques also enhance the conflict potential of texts. The most productive methods are at the lexical and morphological-syntactic levels. A negative polarity is an integral component of a conflict text, since through evaluation the addressee tries to undermine the authority of the opponent and provide protection for his side. The analysis of the material gives us reason to believe that various types of markers of the conflict potential of the text are used not in isolation, but in a complex way, giving such texts a holistic character.
